Obituary for Danny Dewayne McGinnis

Danny Dewayne McGinnis of Coweta, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of August 15th, 2023, in his home with his wife Linda by his side. He was born May 24th, 1954, in Neodesha, Kansas to Floyd and Alice McGinnis. Soon, three siblings, Marlene, Linda, and Cregg followed. Floyd’s work led the family to Bismark, North Dakota for three years, Humbolt, Kansas for three years, then a final move to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, where Danny attended school from the third grade through high school graduation in 1972. Danny spent his youth fishing, hunting, playing baseball, football, and running track. He served in the Episcopal Church as an acolyte.

After high school he received extensive medical training in local Tulsa hospitals, became a certified Emergency Medical Technician, and earned an associate degree in applied science in Respiratory Therapy. As an R.T. Danny worked in all aspects of respiratory therapy, including the neonatal unit, home health, and working with ventilator patients. He was a member of a code blue team and sometimes accompanied other medical personnel on life flight rescues.

Danny was happiest when he was with his family. He and Linda enjoyed gardening, traveling, hiking, rock hunting, playing backgammon, and playing canasta together. He found great joy in planning family outings where he was able to introduce his children to new experiences and to some of his favorite activities from his youth. Spending time with his family was a main source of peace and comfort. Danny’s happy place was anywhere he could go fishing.

Danny was preceded in death by his parents Floyd and Alice and is survived by his wife of forty-three years, Linda, daughter Allison, son Damon, granddaughter Ruby, Ruby’s mom, Camille, son Steven and his wife Julie, grandsons Fincher and Ferris, his siblings and many nieces and nephews, his dogs Rosie and Murphy, and many sweet grand-dogs. A celebration of life will be held August 25th, at 3:00 p.m. at Floral Haven in Broken Arrow.
