William was born on November 26, 1953 and passed away November 12, 1993

 

Willie Elizabeth Murry was born Feb. 7, 1912, at Coalgate, Okla., the daughter of William Ross and Laura Edna (Griggs) Dees. She died Wednesday, Feb 23, 2011, at Saint Francis Hospital, Tulsa, Okla. She was 99.

She was a graduate of Coalgate High School and received her bachelor of science in home economics from East Central State University in Ada, Okla.

She married Harold Murry Sr. on June 27, 1937, at Durant, Okla. They moved to Broken Arrow in 1952 from Holdenville, Okla. He preceded her in death.

Murry was a teacher for a total of 33 years, retiring in 1976. She was an English teacher at Broken Arrow for 17 years, retiring as chairman of the English Department. She was the first president of the Broken Arrow Education Association; a member of the National and Oklahoma Education associations; the Garden Club; Broken Arrow Historical Society; and Senior Citizens Inc. She was also past president of the South Tulsa County Retired Educators Association, and a charter member and past president of Kappa Kappa Iota.

She was instrumental in Broken Arrow becoming a part of the Tulsa City-County Library system and in developing parks and playgrounds. She was president of both Pilot Club and the Business and Professional Women's Club.

In recognition of her contributions, she was named Woman of the Year in 1984 and was inducted into the Broken Arrow Hall of Fame in 1996. She was active in the First United Methodist Church through teaching Sunday school and many activities.

She enjoyed china painting, gardening and travel, having been to 17 different countries.

She is survived by daughter Judy and husband Randy Nichols, Fort Gibson, Okla.; son Harold and wife Ann Murry of Chevy Chase, Md.; daughter-in-law Teresa Murry; grandchildren Jason and wife Robyn, Bill and wife Joanna, Jacob and wife Lindsay, Elizabeth, Brian, Sarah and Brandon and wife Alysse; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, William "Bill" Vance Murry, five brothers and five sisters.Bill's mother was the English teacher toso  many of us. I thought it would be nice to add her obituary to his profile.
